The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns fell 49-30 to the USC Trojans on Saturday night inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The loss moves Louisiana’s record to 1-1 while USC improves to 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
USC quarterback Jayden Maiava was intercepted by Avery Demery on the first drive of the game. That set up a Louisiana field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
The Trojans scored the next 14 points, as Maiava connected on a couple of touchdown passes giving USC a 14-3 lead. Louisiana would respond with a touchdown of their own by Steven Blanco to make it 14-10.
USC would score twice before the half, one on a pass and the other on an 86 yard punt return touchdown by Trent Mosley. The Trojans led 28-10 at the half.
Both teams scored often in the second half, but the lead was too large for Louisiana to overcome. Lunch Winfield scored a couple of touchdowns in the half, but USC used their early advantage and hung on with a 49-30 victory.
BIG NUMBER: 30
The 30 points scored by Louisiana mark the most that USC has given up in a game this season. With 10 first half points, the Cajuns also became the first team to score against the Trojans in the first two quarters this season.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jayden Maiava
The USC quarterback went 19/29 with 261 yards and five touchdowns. His connection with freshman tight end Mark Bowman led the Trojan offense in this one.
