The Houston Astros and their general manager Dana Brown are parting ways effective immediately, the club announced on Monday.
The move comes after the Astros lost their fifth series out of six since the trade deadline, blowing leads on both Saturday and Sunday to the Athletics, who have the worst record in the American League.
“Over the past four seasons, Dana has helped our organization win two division titles and has led our baseball front office through key scouting, draft and development efforts,” Astros owner Jim Crane said. “On behalf of the Astros, I want to thank him for his commitment, energy, and contributions to our organization. We wish he and his family the best.”
Brown was hired as the Astros’ GM beginning with the 2023 season, coming off of a World Series Championship that Houston won with James Click in charge of the front office. Houston made the ALCS in his first season, but then got eliminated in the Wild Card in the following season and missed the playoffs last year.
“I want to thank Jim Crane for the opportunity to serve in my first role as an MLB General Manager,” Brown said. “The Astros organization and the fans have welcomed me and my family, and I am grateful to have called Houston home for the past four seasons. I wish the organization well and I look forward to the future as I continue my 36-plus years in professional baseball.”
The Astros sit with a 65-66 record currently and are tied atop the AL West with the Texas Rangers. The three assistant GMs Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey, and Connor Huff will assume Brown’s responsibilities for now with Senior Advisor Jeff Bagwell also playing a role.
