Even with a hamstring injury, quarterback Sam Leavitt has improved for the Tigers.
LSU’s signal-caller earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors after his performance on the road against the Auburn Tigers. This was the second time Leavitt was bestowed the recognition, the first being after a dominant 51-10 week one win over Clemson.
Leavitt finished Saturday’s 38-17 game by completing 32/45 pass attempts for 387 yards and three touchdowns through the air. He also rushed for 54 yards and another score as the Bayou Bengals improved to 6-2 with the win. Saturday’s win in Auburn was the program’s first on the road since the season-opener last year against Clemson and the first in SEC play since beating Arkansas on October 19th, 2024.
In four of the last five games, Leavitt has passed for 275 yards or more and has a 14/3 touchdown/interception ratio. The junior quarterback also has gone two straight games where he hasn’t turned the football over
Leavitt’s recent uptick in production led to him being the SEC’s leading passer with 2,163 yards and tied for first in passing touchdowns with Mississippi State’s Kamario Taylor at 17. Bama’s Keelon Russell was the only other quarterback with at least 2,000 yards through the air. Leavitt’s rushing stats placed him 18th overall in the SEC and tied for third in rushing scores.
LSU will be off this weekend and return to action on Saturday, November 7th when the Tigers host the Alabama Crimson Tide. Kickoff from Tiger Stadium was scheduled for 2:30 PM, and the action will be heard on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette & 104.1 Lake Charles.
