The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team lost to the Texas A&M Aggies 62-51 on Thursday night inside the Reed Arena in College Station, Texas. With the loss, the Cajuns are 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisiana started the game strong, taking a 4-2 lead in the early stages. The Aggies responded, making a run to take control in the first quarter. Still, outside shooting kept the Cajuns around, as they made two down the stretch of the period to cut the lead to 13-10.
In the second quarter, Emerald Parker of the Aggies was able to heat up. She led all scorers at the half with 14. That, along with struggles from the Louisiana offense, led to A&M matching their largest lead of the game at nine. They took a 31-22 lead to the break.
In the third quarter, the Cajuns started strong with a 12-2 run, allowing them to take the lead. However, A&M answered, retaking the lead and building their advantage back. The Aggies led by 11 after three quarters.
Louisiana played tough in the fourth, but could not make up ground. They played even in the period, and fell 62-51. For the Aggies, former LSU Tiger Kailyn Gilbert combined with Emerald Parker to score 39 of the 62 points.
BIG NUMBER: 39
Gilbert and Parker combined for 39, leading the way for Texas A&M. Those two were the anchors for the Aggie offense.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Aminata Sowe
One of the new Cajuns, Sowe delivered with a double-double. She had 13 points to go along with 15 rebounds.
UP NEXT: Louisiana will be back on the road on Wednesday, November 11th when they face East Texas A&M.
